Speaker: Rodney Wendt
About the Speaker
Rodney Wendt has served as Executive Director of the Washington Economic Development Finance Authority (WEDFA) since 2007. WEDFA is a state agency that leverages a special federal income tax incentive to extend the benefits of state governmental financing to private enterprises, nonprofits, and, in some cases, local governments. Under Wendt's leadership, WEDFA has focused the public finance toolbox on innovation-driven economic development, from research institutions to projects that convert waste streams into value. His work reflects a career-long commitment to creative, sustainable financing mechanisms that support Washington's evolving economy and its emerging industries.
About the Presentation
Washington State's economic landscape extends far beyond the Puget Sound corridor, encompassing a remarkable diversity of industries and opportunities. In this session, Rodney Wendt will explore three defining areas of growth across the state: agriculture, waste, and technology; mass electrical generation and distribution; and the crops that anchor the state's regional economies. Drawing on his experience at WEDFA, Wendt will highlight how public finance tools can accelerate innovation in these sectors, turn waste streams into value, and support the infrastructure that powers the state. Attendees will leave with a broader view of Washington's economic diversity and the opportunities it holds.
